Number of Years Playing an Instrument

Background Info

Band and orchestra and NY state-regional band 1st trumpet (based on A in grade-6 solos) in high school. Graduation award for contributing the most to music programs. Drum and bugle corps participant in college; commander as a senior. Continued to play solo for family and friends during my US Navy career 1972-1998. Played in Salem American Legion Band 2005-2018, (Salem NJ), and in a brass quintet. Played with NJCB 2018-present. Resumed lessons (to see what is possible).

Meaningful Personal Musical Experience(s)

I was in a paid folk-singing group in high school. One other member became Dean of Opera at Curtis. Anther became a professional cellist. Another remains a professional string bass player. And others were similarly impressive, but I have lost track of them. These people inspired me!

Favorite Music Played with NJCB

One thing I like about NJCB is that it exposes me to music I would never encounter on my own. I best like playing Blued Bros, Billy Joel, Sinatra and our Latin-rhythm pieces. I also like trumpet fanfares, like John Williams's Star Spangled Banner.

I'm a published scientific writer, and continue with that. I walk and play tennis with my wife. I like to read, mainly non-fiction. I am sailing crew of the wooden tall ship Kalmar Nyckel. I have nearby grandsons ages 11 and 13 (who play trumpet and piano); we interact a lot.
